Marketing with Mickey

Writers on the brink of publication call me for advice almost every day, full of questions like:

  • What can I expect the publisher to do?
  • (Can you spell the word “nothing” ?)
  • Why are they not promising to do more?
  • What can I do to make a difference in sales?
  • What promotional ploy works best?
  • How long does all this take?
  • What if I am not a good speaker?
  • How aggressive do you have to be?
  • How do I separate my book from a million others?
  • When should I start marketing my book?

So I've decided to answer all those burning questions and help you devise a coherent, successful marketing strategy for your book.

During a one-on-one, four hour planning session, I teach you how to creatively market your book on the web and in other outlets. We also devise specific marketing ideas for your book. These include:

  • "Contacting reviewers"
  • "Getting interviews"
  • "Finding your niche market"
  • "Speaking to book clubs"
  • Etc

When you leave you will have both direction and a comprehensive plan of attack to carry out on your own.

As we all know, the publisher's usual technique-----sending review copies to the same 150 or so editors and reviewers---is not enough. Book tours are also a waste of time and energy. And a young publicist loaded down with 40 books to sell cannot, unfortunately, do the job. This means that you are responsible for your own marketing, and the more you know, the more you'll sell.

Books whose authors I've advised include Saralee Rosenberg's A LITTLE HELP FROM ABOVE (sales exceed 85,000 copies), Peter Friedman's IDEAL MARRIAGE (the French have the film option), Sharon Wyse's THE BOX CHILDREN (reviewed in O Magazine) and Joan Gould's SPINNING STRAW INTO GOLD. (This book will become a classic !)

The fee for my in-depth marketing seminar is $500. And it even includes lunch!

Marketing seminars take place in my apartment in Cliffside Park, NJ, an easy bus ride from the Port Authority or by car.
